Apple Picking

A couple of weekends ago, we went on another farm adventure and went apple picking at Chileno Valley Farm which is just an hour away in Petaluma. Fall is probably one of my favorite times of the year. We have Indian summers in the bay area so it's still warm, but not scorching. It also means apples, pumpkin patches, Halloween, so many fun kids activities to look forward to. The farm not only had apples, but a couple of pear trees and tomatoes which the kids couldn't get into because it was restricted grounds for some reason.

They had a huge haystack which all the kids were into climbing and we took a small farm tour of of the animal. The best part was them letting us into the pen and feeding apples directly to the goats. Alia and I were too scared to get close, but as you can tell from the photos, Tim dove right in.

Although the apple picking looks idyllic, what you can't tell is that once we got there, we were told of a yellow jacket infestation and that we had to make sure to not eat or pick any apples off the ground. We went into the orchard cautiously and were like "quick, pick the apples and let's get out of there" scurrying and scared of getting bitten. It's not like you could see swarm of them, but there definitely were some buzzing around.

Later back at home, Alia and I made some apple turnovers, just pie crust dough, a little lemon, apples, cinnamon sugar and flour. So easy that we made them again for a play date with one of her friends the following week.

note - You'll notice I am watermarking my photos from now. I can't seem to figure out in Blogger how to prevent downloads of images without inserting some difficult code that is beyond me. Plus I already have this blogging software I for my photo business that make it super easy to resize and format in storytelling format.  Recently read too many stories of pirated images out there, so thought I'd be cautions

What this scene doesn't convey is how quickly we hurried out of there - yellow jacket infestation!

It was a warm day in the high 70's, yet Alia insisted on wearing her favorite polka dot jacket. Go figure.

We saw the funniest looking chicken. Actually looked like a poodle, too bad I forgot what it was called.
