Both Kian and Alia have grown attached to Nanny Shira so it was sad to see her go. Unfortunately, she had to leave to take care of her mother who is sick. We completely understood, but of course were saddened by the news.
I interviewed a few different nannies but decided at the end to place Kian in a small home-based daycare full time. He's now 16 months and I'm not as worried about him getting sick all the time as his immunity is better than an infant's. Also, the home daycare I chose is small and cozy compared to other daycares. Usually the rule is 6 kids to an adult care provider but this one only has two other babies who are 6-7 months in addition to Kian. It's in a home so it almost feels like a nanny share vs. actual daycare.
The adjustment is now doing one drop off each day (Tim takes Alia to school in the morning and I pick up, but since Kian wakes up later than Alia, I do his drop off). I also now have to do two pick ups which is also harder. The first week was tough - Kian who is typically so happy and independent and loves new people, became clingy and cried each time he wasn't near me (even when he wasn't in daycare and just at home). He was like that even around Tim! (meaning he wouldn't even want to be around Tim unless I was right there).
He cried each time I left him at daycare which I know is expected. However, we turned a corner around the 5th day and his separation got much better. He is still more clingy than before, but I'm not as worried as before. Poor guy went through a big change from staying at home with someone he knew and trusted to an entirely new person and environment. However, I know he will continue to adjust which proves once again how resilient kids are. We miss Nanny Shira, but hope her all the best with her family and know we will keep in touch.
