Friday was one of the saddest days in our family so far. Our nanny Silvia who has been with us since Alia was 6 weeks old had her last day as she will be working full-time now with another family. Silvia was our Mon/Wed/Fri nanny and her other family had to let her go a few months ago. She tried to find another Tues/Thurs job but had no luck and was finally offered a full-time position with another family.
Although we are incredibly sad and heartbroken, we completely understand that she has to do what is best for her situation. She took care of Alia until she was 2 years old and then Kian until now (he will be one year this week). We've spent 3 wonderful years with Silvia and know she will continue to be a part of our family.
On her last day, we ordered some take-out Brazilian food (she is from Brazil) and gave her a few gifts; a photo book of her time with the kids, a Mandarin orange tree she can plant and think of the kids as it grows, and a cross pendant (she had lost a similar precious necklace in a fire recently).
Although she had been primarily taking care of Kian the last year as Alia was in school, I think one of the saddest moments for me was when she took Alia up for her bedtime routine one last time. Something she hasn't done in a very very long time. They read books and she sat in Alia's bunk bed and I can only imagine how she felt, remembering day one when Alia was only 6 weeks old and still sleeping in a bassinet, to how much Alia's grown and how much time has passed.
Good-bye Nanny Silvia, we will miss you lots and lots and you will always remain part of our family.
