We stayed in the south side of Kauai which is the sunny side near Poipu beach. Just a few minute away was old Koloa town which was a scattering of old town businesses reminiscent of old time Hawaii. We frequented this awesome hole in the wall take out place called Koloa Fish Market where they sold traditional rice plates filled with Pau-Pau and Kalua Pork and rice as well as the freshest seared ahi and poke. The prices were so affordable and it was convenient for us to take out and bring back to the hotel to eat.
I found it funny that there are chickens and roosters roaming the area everywhere you go. They are part of the landscape there. They cross the streets just like we do and you start to not even notice them. I often wondered where the hens laid their eggs. They must be some of the freshest and tastiest eggs ever.
We went to this awesome beach nicknamed "Baby Beach" due to the shallow waters. It was perfect for the kids. Kian loved the water and we put him on his floaty. He also loved crawling on the soft sand. He must have shed a ton of calories that day, he kept army crawling from the shore and back.
Alia absolutely loves the sand and if given a choice she could play with her sand toys all day long. She used to not be scared of the water until she slipped at a pool one day last summer. We knew she'd be scared this time around and sure enough she clung to Tim or her floaty, but by the end of the trip, she got a bit more relaxed about the water.
