This past weekend, Tim and I took Alia to a farm in Petaluma. I had to scope it out for a work event. The farm raises sustainable meats and organic vegetables and offers free farm tours on the hour every weekend. We were the only party for the hour we were there so it was pretty neat to get a "private" tour. We learned so much and I highly recommend taking any kid there just to roam and see farm animals first hand. Alia saw chickens, pigs, and turkeys (currently getting raised for the Thanksgiving season). She also saw cows and horses as well along the way to the farm and surrounding parts. The farm had rolling hills and these neat knotty looking trees all along the valleys. Beautiful!
One funny thing that happened was when I asked Alia to ask the farmer, Cory, if he had any chicken eggs. Well instead of asking for chicken eggs she asked for "chicken nuggets." We all laughed at the irony of it all (chicken nuggets in a sustainable farm?!) But when we all chuckled loudly, Alia broke down in big sobbing tears. She thought she couldn't have chicken nuggets anymore! (only her favorite food next to mac n cheese). I had to promise her some for dinner and in fact that's what she got. Good thing we give her meatless chicken nuggets (shhhh!).
