Father's Day at Red Hill Ranch

On Father's Day, we decided to venture out to an event sponsored by MALT (Marin Agricultural Land Trust) which protects farmland in Marin County. They hosted a "Strawberry Family Day at Red Hill Ranch" in Petaluma, a beautiful "scenic 585 acre ranch with agricultural roots in Marin county since 1857."

The 3 hour event consisted of visiting hen houses and picking fresh eggs straight from laying hens, strawberry picking, making fresh strawberry ice cream, picnicking and eating fresh field greens from the farm, and learning about planting seeds and how bees make honey. Our friends Kirk and Ei-Lun joined us for the day. We all enjoyed every moment. This was so much fun and so educational for both young and old. Alia had a blast as did the adults (we left the baby at home w/ a babysitter, sorry Kian! next year).

We've talked so much to Alia about farm animals, this was a great way to show her the cows, chickens, and so much more.

Poor Tim hurt his foot playing basketball but despite that, he pushed forward, using a cane and making the day all about him and Alia. Lately she's been such a daddy's girl. Not sure if its' because of Kian but it's so great to see them bond. Not only was this a great Father's day event but one I'd recommend for any family any time.

We went inside a hen house where you could pull warm eggs straight from underneath the chicken! We were too "chicken" to try it. But we saw it happen!

Lots of cows going Mooo
