Does the tooth fairy come around for baby teeth?

July 4th weekend ended great (future post to follow) but started off awful! I was excited to finally see my cousins Nick and Kayli again (I've only met them twice!) and they were kind enough to visit me all the way from Shanghai. Okay well, they were in the States already but I like to think they came just for me.

Within 5 minutes of seeing each other at their hotel room, I tripped and hit a chair with chrome legs, my mouth was open and my right front tooth hit the legs dead on. About a third of my tooth shattered in tiny little pieces and I fell back crying in agony!

There was very little blood but obviously the shock and pain was quite hurtful. Since it was Sat, there were no dentist visits available although we tried to get one. Since I only cried off and on for 15-20 minutes and was soothed by some milk, it was decided that a trip to the ER was not necessary. It didn't seem like my nerve was exposed as I was able to eat fine an hour later. In fact, I ate and acted the same about an hour after it happened. I'm such a strong little girl!

Once the dentist offices opened up again on Tuesday, I went to my first dental appt and they determined the nerve had not been hit. I am going back in 8 weeks to get a cap on the bottom to smooth it out so I don't look like I have a cracked tooth until my adult ones come in around 6 yrs old.

It was such a traumatic experience and it all happened in a flash, even though everyone was around me watching out. I hope it never happens again!

All's I gotta say is that the tooth fairy better come around and make a special delivery for this one!

  1. Dear Alia,

You poor little thing! It must be very painful, but you only cried for 15-20 minutes! What a brave little girl you are! I wish I were there to hold you.

    Love,
    Grandma Hsu
