July 4th - Pardee Independence Day Picnic and Pier 39

After my traumatic tooth experience on July 3rd, I ended up having a great July 4th -what a relief!

We went to an old-fashioned Victorian museum in Oakland called the Pardee which hosted an old-timey 1910 Independence Day picnic and ice cream social! There was croquet and lawn volleyball, contests for Most Picturesque ladies and Most Dapper gentlemen. There were hand-made picnic foods like old fashioned potato salad, baked beans, burgers and dogs, watermelon, cookies and bars. There was an arts and crafts table for kids to make a keepsake ornament to take home.

The BEST part of all was that we all got to make hand-cranked ice cream, all with real old-fashioned crankers and rock salt and then the ice cream was scooped into sundaes or cones for our eating pleasure. It was the yummiest ice cream ever! Since it was a special occasion, I had a third of a cone and as you can tell, I was loving every bite.

After the museum, we bravely ventured out to Pier 39 where they had July 4th festivities going on. What a crowd of people! There must have been hundreds of them all coming out. Luckily we didn't have to brave the coming back traffic since we didn't stay for fireworks. Way past my bedtime. We ended up having a nice seafood dinner there at Fog Harbor and coasted home around 7pm with no traffic in sight.

The picnic and ice cream social was a definite hit and we're going to try and make it a family tradition to come out each year. Dada says he wants to compete in the Most Dapper contest next year. I know he'll have my vote for sure!
