This past Sun was Alia's 3rd birthday. She kind of got her bday last year, but this year she REALLY got it and it was so much fun talking about it with her the days leading up to it. Back in Dec, we stumbled upon a great little kid's art studio in Berkeley, called 4CatsStudio (they're actually a franchise, but only limited locations e.g. only 2 in CA). What I love about this place is that they focus on real art and use professional art mediums instead of cheap kid's art supplies. They focus on themes like Van Gogh, Monet, etc.
We booked the date for a two hour party. They also let you bring in your own food, cake, etc at no charge, which is nice. I made sandwiches, brought snacks, and of course cupcakes from Teacake.
The activity consisted of making a clay pirate or princess and painting a blue sky and grass with clouds and then gluing the clay figuring so it was sort of a 3D figure. I wish I'd taken a photo of it but didn't have a chance. It turned out super cute.
The party favor were these handmade crayon rolls I got from Etsy - my fave place to support small, hand-made businesses. Ever since opening Teacake, I try hard to support small, handmade businesses as much as possible.
The day up to the party, Alia and I picked out her special outfit (a top and red tutu from a friend she got for Xmas) and we "hid" the special bday clothes in a special place. Each night, she'd want me to look at her hidden bday clothes in anticipation of wearing them the day of the party. She also knew it was going to the at the "art studio."
Another cute thing was that each night for about two weeks leading up to her party we'd recite who was going to her party. She'd say "I want to name my fwiends" and off we'd go listing them by name. Who was attending and who wasn't and why.
She had a great time. Happy birthday to my big girl Alia. Where did the time go?
