Last week was joyful and bittersweet at the same time. It was Alia's "transition week" at her new school where she will be going full time from 8-6m Mon-Fri. Up until now, she has been taken care of primarily by two nannies. Nanny Silvia (3 days a week) who has been with her since 6 weeks and Nanny Shira (2 days a week) who has been with her for almost a year. Alia loves them both dearly and it was hard to imagine how she would adjust to days without seeing them.
Transition week at school consisted of coming to school for an hour and a half each day so she could get used to her new environment, teachers and fellow students. She did an amazing job each day, socializing well, responding to the teacher and even not crying or asking for me once the last two days where it was just a drop off (for a couple of hours). She seemed to LOVE going to school and I felt less anxious about the new change.
Today was the first day of school where she would be attending full-time. Having seen her respond so well last week, I wasn't too worried. However, I think she knew something was up because she did start to bawl when Tim and I said good-bye in the morning. We made it short and brief and left her while she was crying. I felt horrible, but two hours later, got a called from her teacher saying that Alia only cried for less than 5 minutes and was fine after that. What a relief. Later when I picked her up, the teacher said she did cry again during nap time and asked for us but she stopped after 20 minutes and was fine the rest of the day. When I saw her again, she seemed happy and actually wanted to stay so I actually stayed and played with her for almost an hour and then we went home. She seemed fine the rest of the night and we did our usual bath, dinner, bedtime routine with no change.
Hopefully this will continue in the next weeks to come although I'm sure there will be moments of regression.
